Examines the challenges and benefits of educational mainstreaming for children with mental disabilities. Follows the story of Peter Gwasdauskis, a child with Down syndrome, in sixth grade, eighth grade and high school. Includes interviews with Peter's parents, teachers, fellow students, aids and doctors.
Explores the educational value and social dynamics of play while emphasizing the importance of a supportive adult presence in the playground environment. Games and techniques used by teachers and psychologists to help children develop interpersonal skills, articulate their feelings, and reflect on their behavior are included, as is information on playground design.
This video shows the importance of learning to read. It follows the reading programs for one year at two elementary schools in poor communities. Both schools show improvement. The study shows that with good teachers, who were patient and willing to work hard with their students, the reading programs could improve.
