For Open Access (FREE) journals explore DOAJ's subject areas.
To access this database, scroll down to the databases button and click on it.
Then click on the letter C and scroll down and click on CINAHL.
Databases are set by default to the advanced search, which will have several boxes for terms/keywords/subject headings
The top box is "weighted" which means that the term input into this box is the "most relevant" (your primary subject)
This is a way to narrow results.
This happens!
Time to revise the search.
Click the search icon on the right.
Click on the term in blue (hyperlinked) to get more details.
If you want Gout to be the primary term then you need to select the "Major Concept" box.
You can "explode" the term to select further subject headings
Let's include Drug therapy from the exploded headings options.
Then scroll up and click on "Add to search"
Now search for NSAID in the same way you searched for Gout.
Now narrow in the filter section to WOMEN and then also select age range as needed.
Click Search
1. From the library webpage, scroll down until you see:
2. Then click on E in the Alphabet at the top of the page:
3. Then scroll down and select Electronic Journal Center:
You can search by both basic and advanced search.
NOTE: if you do a basic search you will need to include the operators between your terms (AND, OR, NOT)
4. Click on Advanced Search:
5. Type each term into a box. If you are searching based on subject it is best to choose "Article Topic" from the left dropdown menu. The example shows limiting to a specific year range.
Note: make sure to select the operators (AND, OR, NOT) to tell the database how to structure your search.
6. Results will populate below the search query:
From the library webpage: https://lourdes.edu/library/
Scroll down and click on Databases button
In the alphabet, click on the letter P. Scroll down and click on PubMed
Click on the "Advanced" below the basic search box.
In the box below "Add terms to query box" select "text word" from the drop down menu, and enter in your first term.
Then click on the ADD button to the right, and select how you want this term to be added.
HINT: if you are going to add more terms and want to narrow results select AND. OR gives you more results. NOT eliminates results.
Continue adding terms as needed
Again, click on ADD with the appropriate operator (AND, OR, NOT)
Once you have all the terms needed, and ADD them, your search will show in the Query box connected by the operators you have chosen. You can then click Search.
Results appear on the right. To narrow results use the facets on the left.
